TRENTON – Assemblymen Michael Torrissi and Brandon Umba released legislation to provide free admission to State parks, forests and beaches for veterans and military personnel.

“Our men and women who served or continue to serve have been through situations we can’t even imagine. Their life in military service is no walk in the park or stroll on the beach. The least we can do is make sure they enjoy New Jersey’s beautiful parks and beaches for free when they return home,” said Torrissi (R-Atlantic).

Currently, free admission is provided to state residents who are active members of the National Guard, totally disabled or 62 year of age and older. This bill would extend that to all veterans and military personnel.

“While free admission to parks, nature preserves and beaches might be just a small thank you for the service of our brave men and women, it is something we should and can get done immediately,” said Umba (R-Burlington). “The relaxation of nature goes a long way for us all, but especially for our military members and veterans, who experience stress most of us can’t relate to.”

The bill, A288, is currently pending in the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
